Question

I am unable to open my company file, which is in the mapped folder in the server. How can I fix it?

Every time I open the program it directs to my local C: drive.

Answer

Manually edit the registry to configure the EnableLinkedConnections keys and to enable it.

We have noticed the issue where Payroll Premier loses the connection to the mapped drive location after restarting the PC. Therefore, unable to access the company file from the network.

You will also lose the connection to the mapped drive when you run Payroll Premier Application as an ‘Administrator’.

Generally, the issue appears after restarting the PC.

Detailed steps.

Care: These instructions will ask you to make adjustments to your computer’s registry. Changes made here, if not done correctly, may impede the performance of your PC. If you are not confident in making such important adjustments Reckon recommends you contact your IT Professional.

1) Edit the registry key to enable the linked connections.

a. Go to the start menu, type REGEDIT in the search bar.

b. Click the Start button, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press the Enter key;

c. Locate the key:

i. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

ii. and right click it;

d. Point to New, and click DWORD(32-Bit) Value.

e. Type: EnableLinkedConnections, and press Enter;

f. Right-click EnableLinkedConnections, and click Modify;

g. In the Value data box, type1, and then click OK;

h. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

2) Open the Payroll Premier and setup the network data path to your mapped drive location, once again.

It will now retain the path in future.
