Last transaction of imported bank statement does not import into NZ QuickBooks

Legacy KB ID: 4847

Question

Why does Quickbooks not import the last transaction of my bank statement that I downloaded from my bank’s website as a Quicken QIF format?

Answer

You may experience this problem when importing a bank statement from the Bank of New Zealand.

The Bank of New Zealand has not included a carriage return with its End of Transaction marker on the last transaction.  QuickBooks does not import the last transaction as it has not received the end of transaction signal and is still waiting for more information

You will need to insert a carriage return into the End of Transaction marker (^) of the last transaction.

Detailed Instructions

1.    Download your bank statement in Quicken QIF format from the Bank of New Zealand and save to an easily accessible location like the Desktop;

2.    Create a backup copy:

Right-click this file > Copy > right click & Paste > accept the name ****-Copy.qif

3.    Open this downloaded file with Notepad:

Right-click the file in your saved location (like the Desktop) and select Notepad;

4.    Scroll down to the bottom of the file.  You will see the cursor symbol (|) next to the End of Transaction marker (^):

5.   Click the carriage return once.  The cursor symbol will move to the start of the next line:

6.    Click on File > Close and save the file

You can now import this bank statement into quickBooks and the final transaction will also import.
