The operation cannot be performed because the message has been changed error when emailing from RA

Question

Why do my emails from Reckon Accounts fail to send?  I get the message:  “The operation cannot be performed because the message has been changed”.

Answer

You may experience this issue if you are using ESET Smart Security (also part of Norton Security’s NOD32 Antivirus system) to scan emails before they are sent.  When the scan is completed a notification is appended to the email.  Some email programs cannot handle the added notification and produce the error.

The notification is not necessary and is not an integral part of the antivirus process.  Where the notification is causing a problem it can be safely turned off.
