Legacy KB ID: 4270

Question

How do I find where may company file is stored on this PC?

Answer

You can find the location of your company files in a number of ways.

Inside QuickBooks

View the full path for the company file opened by clicking on the F2 key to view the Product Information screen.  The File Information section lists the full path to the current company file opened.

You can also see the path to this company file and other recently opened company files by selecting File > Open Previous Companies.

From your Computer

Use your computer’s search features to identify Reckon Accounts company files.  In the search box, enter:

·         *.QBW for company files

·         *.QBB for backup files

·         *.QBM for portable company files.

To search for a file on Windows 7:

1.    Click Start and enter *.QBW in the Search programs and file box.  Do not click on Enter.

2.    A list of files will appear above.

3.    If the file you are looking for is not listed, click on See More Results to a see a full list of matches on your C:\ drive.

4.    To search other drives attached to your computer, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click on Computer.   Note:  if you are attached to a network and have access to many drives, all these locations will be searched, and the process may take a long time.

To search for a file on Windows XP:

1.    Start > Search > All files and folders >

2.    In All or part of the file name, enter *.QBW

3.    In Look in, select the drive to search or My Computer to search all drives
