QBQIF2OFX - Run-time error 5 when importing QIF manually

Legacy KB ID: 5650

Question

Why does my bank statement import fail with the error "QBQIF2OFX - Run-time error '5'" when importing QIF manually?

Answer

This error will commonly occur after you have installed another edition of Reckon Accounts Business (RAB) or have imported the same QIF and already have the QBO created using the earlier version of Reckon Accounts (QuickBooks).

Who does this apply to?

Any Reckon Accounts Business users.

Workarounds:

Change the file association using the step below, as changing the file association via control Panel only is not sufficient, especially in windows 10.

1. Close Reckon Accounts.

2. Open the location of QIF you are trying to import.

3. Right-click the .QBO file (usually with the file with the red Reckon logo)

4. Click Properties > Under General Tab > click the “CHANGE” button on Opens with.

(For windows 10 and windows 8)

5. Click More Apps > Scroll at the bottom and click Look for another Apps on this PC.

6. Open the Reckon Accounts Installation folder (the Latest version).

7. Double click the QBW32.exe (allowing that RAB version to read and import the QBO into Reckon Accounts).

(For Windows 7)

8. Browse to Reckon Accounts Installation folder and click QBW32.exe (allowing that RAB version to read and import the QBO into Reckon Accounts).

Installation folder Location:

For 64 bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\Reckon Accounts 20XX

For 32 Bit: C:\Program Files\Intuit\Reckon Accounts 20XX

NOTE:

Reckon Accounts File association with (.QBO) file depends on what version of Reckon Accounts you have installed last. If you have installed the latest version of Reckon Accounts and wanted to import QIF into the earlier version you have installed on your computer. You will need to reinstall that version. The same rule applies to the current version of Reckon Accounts that you have. Otherwise, your QIF import will not work.
