Last transaction of imported bank statement (QIF) does not import into RAB

Legacy KB ID: 5550

Question

Why does Reckon Accounts Business not import the last transaction of my bank statement that I downloaded from my bank’s website as a Quicken QIF format?

Answer

Enter a carriage return on the last entry of the QIF file

The Issue

Some financial institutions may not include a carriage return on the last line of the QIF file.  Without that carriage return Reckon Accounts cannot detect that the information for the last entry is complete and does not import it.

Manually inserting a carriage return into the End of Transaction marker (^) of the last transaction.

Detailed Instructions

1. Download your bank statement in Quicken QIF format from your financial institution and save it to an easily accessible location like your Desktop;

2. Create a backup copy:

Right-click this file > Copy > right click& Paste > accept the name ****-Copy.qif;

3. Open this downloaded file with Notepad:

Right-click the file in your saved location (like the Desktop) and select Notepad;

4. Scroll down to the bottom of the file.  You will see the cursor symbol (|) next to the End of Transaction marker (^);

5. Click the carriage return once.  The cursor symbol will move to the start of the next line:

      6. Click on File > Close and save the file

You can now import this bank statement into Reckon Accounts and the final transaction will also import.
