Reckon Desktop POS: Runtime error 3709 - The search key was not found

Legacy KB ID: 5382

Question

Why do I get the error: Runtime error 3709 – the search key was not found; when I try to set the location of the Database file on a Reckon POS terminal?

Answer

Compact and Repair the Database file (filename.PDB) – twice if necessary.

The Issue

The Reckon Desktop Point of Sale Database file has a minor corruption that is affecting the access of second and additional terminals.  The first terminal may be operating without issue.

Solution

Compact and Repair the Database file

  1. Process end of day on your Terminals and shut them down.
  2. In the Administrator, post your transactions to Reckon Accounts;
  3. Create a fresh backup of your database file
You may also want to create separate backups or print out:
      1. Keyboard layouts
      2. Laybys
      3. Customer Loyalty programme
      4. Product, Customer and promotion product label layouts
      5. Table Manager Settings backup of your keyboard layouts and print out your Laybys and Customer Loyalty
  4. Click on the Compact and Repair icon and follow any instructions.

When complete turn on your Terminals one by one.

If the problem persists, then Compact and Repair your Database file again.

If this fails, rename the Database file and restore a previous backup.  This backup will not have subsequent transactions.
