Switch To or Retry when entering a transaction or printing receipt in POS

Question

Why do I get the error: “This action cannot be completed.... Switch To or Retry” when I finish a transaction or print a receipt?

Answer

You are likely to get this issue if your mapped drive to the Retail POS database file (QBPOS.PDB) has become disconnected. 

Users of Windows XP with Service Pack 3 applied are most likely to experience this issue after a period of as little as 15 minutes of inactivity.  This is a known Microsoft issue.
