Error 1723 when installing Accounts Business 2014

Question

Why does my installation of Accounts Business 2014 fail with the error:

Error 1723.  There is a problem with the windows Installer package.  A DLL required for the install to proceed could not be run.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor. 

 

Answer

See your IT Professional to stop the Webroot Antivirus and Spy Sweeper applications.

 

The Issue

The error indicates that a required file could not be started.  This usually occurs when a security application locks the file.

With the cases reported to us we have found that it has been the Webroot Antivirus and Spy Sweeper applications that are locking the required DLL. 

Other security application may behave in the same way.

These applications prevent normal users modifying their configuration to allow the installation to proceed.  These applications are not bypassed by Selective Startup mode.

 

Workaround

Refer to your IT Professional to access the application’s configuration to allow Accounts Business to access Windows Installer DLLs and allow the installation to proceed.
