Unexpected error when installing Reckon Accounts Home and Business

Question

Why am I getting an unexpected error when I try to install Reckon Accounts Home and Business?     

Answer

You may experience this issue when installing Reckon Accounts Home and Business 2010 and later on a Windows XP 64-bit operating system.

The computer lacks, or has a corrupted, .Net Framework installation.

 

Workaround

Uninstall and reinstall all Microsoft .Net Framework installations.

 

To uninstall .Net Framework:

1.    Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

2.    Highlight the latest .Net Framework (3.5.1) and click Remove;

3.    Repeat Step 2 untill all .Net Frameworks are removed.

 

To Install .Net Framework 1.0 and SP1:

1.    Insert the Quicken installation disk and exit the welcome screen;

2.    In Windows Explorer browse to the CD drive\HAB\Disk1\dotnetfx\ and double click on dotnetfx.exe.  Follow the instructions to install.

 

Update .Net Framework for all updates:

1.    Go to the Microsoft website:  https://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=16921

2.    Download and Save the 3 updates to your Desktop:

          NDP20SP2-KB958481-x64.exe

          NDP30SP2-KB958483-x64.exe

          NPD35SP1-KB958484-x64.exe

3.    Run each in the listed order above.

 

Install Reckon Accounts Home and Business:

1.    Check Control Panel for any installation of Reckon Accounts Home and Business and remove it;

2.    Insert the installation disk and select install.

 

Additional Information

Error: 16-bit windows subsystem system\CurrentcontrolSet\Control\Virtualdevicedrivers\. vdd Virtual device drivers format in registry is invalid.

No response when selecting Internet Connection Setup menu option.
