·         Reported document must have a top level element. Line 0 error code 129

Answer

Common causes for these errors are either a damaged FSD file or a damaged installation. Reckon suggests troubleshooting a damaged FSD file before troubleshooting a damaged installation.

The damaged FSD file does not need to be the same FSD file as the one linked to the company file you are opening. QuickBooks reads all FSD files in the Clients folder when opening Financial Statement Designer (FSD) and if any of the FSD files are damaged, this will cause the error to occur.

Detailed Instructions

Check that another instance of the FSD process is not already running:

·         Either:  reboot the PC.

·         Or:  Open the Windows Task Manager > Processes tab > highlight QBFSD.exe and click End Process.

Locate the FSD file(s) folder.  Default locations are:

·         Windows 7 or Vista: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files\FSD\Clients

·         Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents (or Shared Documents)\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files\FSD\Clients

If the user has moved the FSD file to a different folder or the location is not known, search for *.fsd on your hard drive. The result you are looking for will display the Company filename with an extension FSD. (There may be more than one file found)

Rename the FSD Clients folder

1.    Select the FSD file having the same name as your company name file.

2.    Right-click the file and select Open Containing Folder.

3.    Select the View menu and select Go To > Up One Level.

4.    Right-click the Client folder and select Rename. Rename the folder Clients.old.

Start the FSD in QuickBooks

1.    Open your company file

2.    Reports menu > Financial Statement Designer

a.    If FSD opens without error, then you know that there is a damaged FSD file in the Client.old folder.

b.    If FSD still opens displaying Error 132, it is likely Reckon Accounts installation was damaged. Proceed to the section, Repairing my Program Installation.

3.    At the prompt Create a new Financial Statement Designer Client click OK.

4.    Once FSD opens, exit FSD but leave QuickBooks open. Proceed to the section on Troubleshooting your FSD file.

Troubleshooting your FSD file:

These steps require copying one FSD file at a time to the new Clients folder and then test open FSD.

1.    Open the Client.old folder from the Rename the FSD Clients folder section above.

2.    Right-click the first FSD file on the list and select Cut.

3.    Open the Client folder (not Client.old).

4.    Right-click inside the Client folder and select Paste.

5.    From QuickBooks select the Reports menu and select Financial Statement Designer.

Note: If FSD opens without an Error, this FSD file is not damaged. Return to the Rename the FSD Clients folder section above and repeat the process with every other file in the folder. If FSD opens with an Error, this FSD file is damaged. The file needs to either be deleted or moved to another folder isolated from the working FSD files. You will also need to create a new FSD client for whichever company file this FSD file belong to.

Repairing your program Installation

1.    Close FSD and close Reckon Accounts.

2.    Click the Windows Start button, select Settings and then select Control Panel.

3.    Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

4.    Click your version of Reckon Accounts and click the Change/Remove button.

5.    Select Repair and respond to the prompts.

6.    If you continue to experience errors, click HERE (KB3908: Error 132 and 133 when opening or closing Financial Statement Designer) for additional instructions to repair a damaged installation.
