The attempt to login with the username ‘Name’ failed. This user is already logged into the company

Legacy KB ID: 4440

Question

Why am I denied access to my company file with the message that I am already logged into the company file?

Answer

The message indicates that another user on another PC has logged onto this file with your credentials. This can happen when you allow other users to access the company file with your credentials. Or your previous login session was not disconnected properly and therefore your previous session is still connected.

For instance, you may be a Reckon Accounts Hosted user and have allowed your Accountant to work on your file with your credentials. The Accountant may be accessing the file now without your knowledge.

Users should be given their own credentials to enter a company file and assigned relevant permissions.

Alternatively, the network session has ‘hung’ and needs resetting.

With Reckon Accounts Hosted, Professional and Accredited Partners can be given access to your company file at no extra charge.See KB4207: How to share a file on Reckon Accounts Hosted.

Workaround

Check with other potential users of your credentials whether they are currently logged onto the company file.

If no other user is accessing the file please follow the below steps on how to log off the session so you can try log back in.

Reckon Accounts Hosted: log off the session through Manage My Account.

1. login to Reckon Accounts hostedand click on Control Panel in the dashboard.

2. Under System Maintenance, click on Log Off Remote Sessions.

3. You will see the list of users in the list, click Log Off user to log off.

This will log of the user, try log back into Accounts Hosted now.

On an office network: reboot all Reckon Accounts PCs and the server.
