When upgrading CashBook 8 to 2003 the message "file cannot be opened" appears

Question

When upgrading CashBook v8 file to 2003 why do I see an error message saying that the file can not be opened?

Answer

Quicken is unable to open the datafile as it is damaged. To rectify this, you can create a copy of your datafile and then upgrade this copy.

To create a copy of your data file;
1) Open the file in Version 8.
2) Choose File menu > File Operations > Copy.
3) Specify the location where you wish to save your datafile and the period covered.
4) Press OK. Now upgrade the copy of the data file.

If this does not work make a backup of the data file in Version 8 and restore the file into 2003.
