The mail api was given an invalid value, possibly an invalid email address in Reckon Accounts when emailing

Legacy KB ID: 4398

Question

Why can’t I send an email from Reckon Accounts?  I get the message:

The mail api was given an invalid value, possibly an invalid email address.  Your message has not been sent.

Answer

The error message indicates that the email address (or addresses) supplied do not conform to standard email address structures:  eg: name@company.com.au.

Solution

Check the email address (or addresses) for the customer, supplier or employee and ensure the email address is correct:

  • Single emails follow the standard structure name@company.com.au
  • Multiple emails are properly separated with a semi-colon - > ; <.
  • Same standards apply to the CC field.

To access customer email addresses:

Customer Centre > double-click the customer > Address Info > Email text field

To access supplier email addresses:

Supplier Centre > double-click the supplier > Address Info > Email text field

To access employee email addresses:

Employee Centre > double click on employee > Address and Contact > Email text field
