Viewing hidden files and folders on a Windows system

Question

Some of the sub-folders mentioned in Reckon articles are by default hidden folders within the Windows Operating System. 

To view a hidden folder you will need to do the following steps.


Answer


Windows 10:

  1. Windows Start button > File Explorer
  2. View > Options > Change Folder and Search Options > View
  3. In the larger Advanced Settings box find the entry Hidden files and folders ;
  4. Click the radio button Show hidden files, folders, and drives then OK;

You should now be able to see hidden folders.


Windows 8, 7 and Vista

  1. Click on the Windows Start button and Computer;
  2. Click on the Organize button in the top left hand corner;
  3. Select Folder and Search Options;
  4. Click on the View tab;
  5. In the larger Advanced Settings box find the entry Hidden files and folders ;
  6. Click the radio button Show hidden files, folders, and drives then OK;

You should now be able to see hidden folders.


Windows XP

  1. Click on the Windows Start button and My Computer;
  2. On the top menu line, click on Tools and select Folder Options;
  3. Click on the View tab;
  4. In the larger Advanced Settings box find the entry Hidden files and folders;
  5. Click the radio button Show hidden files and folders then OK;

You should now be able to see hidden folders.
