Reckon Accounts Personal Range crashes unexpectedly

Question

Why does Reckon Accounts Personal crash unexpected with the message:  “Reckon Accounts has encountered a problem and needs to close”?  Other suggested solutions did not work or did not apply.

Answer

Run the Windows command:  sfc /scannow and if necessary uninstall and reinstall printer dirvers and Reckon Accounts Personal.

 

Issue

With this fault you may get any number of error codes beginning with 7xxx.

Reckon accounts Personal uses many windows operating system files.  If any of these files becomes corrupt, or is updated, then RAP may not function properly.

Also, updates and damage to printer drivers can force RAP to not function correctly.

 

Workaround

Check that your operating system files are not at fault.

This step will replace all operating system files with a copy of their state at installation.  If any of these files was updated you will need to update them again.

(Alternatively you can do a System Restore to a time RAP operated properly.)

Windows 10

1.    Press Windows Key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin)

2.    At the command line enter: sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").

Windows 8

1.    Point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.

2.    In the Search box, type: Command Prompt in the Search box,

3.    right-click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

4.    At the command line enter: sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").

Windows 7

1.    Click Start, type cmd in the Search box,

2.    right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

a.    If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

3.    At the command line enter: sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").

Run Windows Update to ensure any files updated since first installation are updated again.

Test the operation of Reckon Accounts Personal again.

(You may have to update other operating system files for other programmes.)

 

If the problem persists then continue:

Verify your printer settings

1.    File > Printer Setup > For Reports, Cheques or Invoices

2.    Verify that the correct printer is selected

3.    Make any necessary changes and click OK

4.    Attempt to print. If you cannot print:

a.    Windows 8, 10: type Printers in the search box and select Devices & Printers;

b.    Windows 7: Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes.

c.    Right-click the printer used in RA Personal’s Printer Setup and select Printer Properties > Advanced

d.    Look for the options Spool print documents and Print directly to printer.  Click on the one NOT selected.   

e.    Click OK or Save.

Test the operation of Reckon Accounts Personal again.

 

Uninstall and Reinstall Reckon Accounts Personal and your Printer Drivers

1.    Uninstall Reckon Accounts Personal in the Control Panel

2.    Uninstall Printer Drivers (unplug your printers from the PC)

3.    Windows 10:

a.    In the Search box type: Printers, and select Devices & Printers;

b.    Take note of your physical printers

c.    Right click each physical printer and select Remove Device

4.    Restart your computer

5.    Reinstall Reckon Accounts Personal

6.    Reinstall your Printers

a.    In the Search box type: Printers, and select Devices & Printers;

b.    Click on Add a Printer and follow the on screen instructions to install your physical printer

c.    Repeat for all physical printers.

 

Test the operation of Reckon Accounts Personal again.
