Memorised payee with split transactions does not automatically update to new amount

Question

When using a memorised payee, if I change the amount, the entry no longer changes the amount to the new amount.  The difference is left as a remainder on the next line.  Why?

 


Answer

Manually enter the new amount(s) in the split line(s) and press Adjust button.

 

The Issue

The way Reckon Accounts Personal range (from 2005, and formerly Quicken range) handles Memorised Payee transactions is different to the way it was processed in the older series CashBooks (last 2004).

Then, if you saved a Memorised Payee with one amount, and later you used that Payee with another amount, Cashbook would automatically process the new amount.

Now, when you use a Memorised Payee with another amount, Reckon Accounts Personal range will keep the memorised amount and list the difference on the next available line, awaiting your assignment.

 

Workaround

When you overwrite the amount in the Payment or Deposit column on the Bank Register:

  1. Click on Split and see the original amount and the difference in red on the next line;

  2. Change the amount on the entry to the new full amount;

  3. Click on the Adjust button at the bottom of the screen;

  4. Click enter to record the transaction

 

Alternative method

  1. Overwrite the amount on the Bank Register and click Enter;

  2. On the Split Adjustment window that opens click on Allocate;

  3. Click on Edit Split

  4. Click on OK to record the transaction.

 

If you want to save the new amount memory the payee again:

  1. Highlight the transaction in the Bank Register

  2. Right click and select memorise payee

  3. To the question: Memorise split payees as percentage?, select Yes;

  4. Click OK to save the change.
