Question

Why do I receive this error message while installing Reckon Accounts?

Warning: The reg file qbcenters.reg could not be merged into the registry. Please contact Product Support.

Answer

There are three possible causes for this issue:

1) Your computer does not have the file regedit.exe (or regedit.com) in the Windows or WINNT directory, or Windows cannot find it.

2) Your computer may have had the Navidad virus and you followed anti-virus instructions from either Norton or McAfee to rename the regedit.exe file. Although renaming resolves the issue with the virus, the instructions do not indicate that you need to rename the regedit file back to its original name.

3) You are attempting to install Reckon Accounts to a Windows NT Terminal Server configuration, which runs all applications from a server. Each user accesses applications and data from a remote terminal.

Answer: If one of the first two possible causes applies to you, follow these steps:

Search your computer for regedit.* You may find several files; the one you need should still be located in the Windows or WINNT directory

When found, right-click the file name, select Rename, then change the name back to regedit.exe and press Enter.

Restart your computer.

Note: If you cannot find the appropriate regedit file, please contact either your system administrator or Microsoft to install regedit.exe on your computer.

If the third possible cause applies to you:

Reckon Accounts will not run with this type of configuration. The program must be installed locally on each individual computer.

NOTE: If you are unsure of how to do either of these or are not comfortable doing them then you should consult a qualified technician before commencing.
