Warning: "B Check failed, node = (XXX) error = (XXX)"

Legacy KB ID: 1915

Question

How do I resolve this warning message, which occurs when running the Verify Data or Rebuild Data utility?

B Check failed, node = (XXX) error = (XXX)

Answer

This warning message indicates structural damage to the QuickBooks data file.

This issue can usually be resolved by rebuilding your company data file, which will reindex the file and put the data back in the correct order. The instructions for resolution depend upon what you were doing when you received the warning.

If you received this warning while running the Reckon Accounts Verify Data utility:

  1. Write down the information provided in the "node =" and error codes, and then click OK.
  2. Allow the Verify Data utility to complete.
You should receive a message that begins with Data has lost integrity...
  3. Follow the instructions in the message for rebuilding data.

If you received this warning during pass 1 while running the Rebuild Data utility:

  1. Click OK in the message window and allow the rebuild to continue.
  2. Restore the backup you made prior to the rebuild, using a new file name.
  3. Restart your computer in safe mode and try rebuilding your data again, using the restored backup file.

If the warning persists, please contact Reckon Technical Support or log a support ticket here.

Note: A "B Check failed" warning during pass 1 of the Rebuild Data function may indicate a seriously damaged data file.

If you received this warning during pass 2 while running the Rebuild Data utility:

  1. Click OK in the message window and allow the rebuild to complete.
  2. Restart your computer in safe mode (if possible) and try rebuilding your data again. You can use your original file in this case.
