Legacy KB ID: 2927

Question

How do I resolve the message "Setup initialisation error, setup is unable to decompress, error 112"

Answer

Temporary files with the *.tmp extension are created during Setup to facilitate the installation of Quicken. This Setup initialisation error occurs when Quicken Setup is unable to decompress or create these temporary files. To resolve this issue, try the following steps:

  1. Click the Windows Start button, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  2. Double-click the icon of the primary hard disk in the Folders window. This is usually drive C.
  3. Double-click the Windows folder in the right pane of Windows Explorer.
  4. Click the Temp folder in the right pane.
  5. From the File menu, select Rename.
  6. Type "OldTemp" and press ENTER.
  7. Press the F5 key at the top of the keyboard.
  8. From the File menu, point to New, and select Folder.
  9. Type "Temp" and press ENTER.
  10. Close all windows and restart the computer.
  11. Install Quicken 2001.

If the message persists, try the following steps:

  1. Click the Windows Start button and select Run. Type "sysedit" and press ENTER.
  2. Select the Autoexec.bat window. Add the line "SET TEMP=C:\QTEMP". (Note: If there is already a line that begins with SET TEMP=, replace it with the above.)
  3. From the File menu, select Exit. Save your changes.
  4. Click the Windows Start button, point to Programs/B>, and then click Windows Explorer.
  5. Double-click the icon for drive C in the Folders window.
  6. From the File menu, point to New, and select Folder.
  7. Type "QTEMP" and press ENTER.
  8. Close all windows and restart the computer.
  9. Install Quicken.
