Error message: 'Communications Port not available' when opening POS

Legacy KB ID: 3504

Question

Why do I get the message 'Communications Port not available' when I open QuickPOS?

Answer

A USB printer in POS emulates a virtual COM port, this means that it is not a true COM port like serial printers use. When you turn off the printer you are effectively uninstalling a USB device much like a memory stick. When this is done the POS terminal needs to be closed, then turn the printer back on, go to the properties of this printer and set it up to use a new COM port in most occasions being COM3

To get to the properties of the USB printer do the following;
1. Open POS Terminal
2. Click on the 'Tools' menu then select 'Options'
3. Now Select the Options Box then 'Receipt Printer' and re-choose the COM port which in most cases is COM3.

How did we do?

Runtime error 9-subscript out of range

Amounts don't change when I toggle the inc or ex tax option on POS Terminal
