Error using a scale with Reckon Point Of Sale: Cannot read the weight from the scale

Question

Why when I use the scale with Reckon Point of Sale, I receive the error 'Cannot read the weight from the scale'?

Answer

There are a number of problems that can contribute to causing this error message. The obvious causes are listed below.

• • Scale not turned on
  • Scale incorrectly connected to the wrong COM port: cable connection problems can be trouble-shooted by a person with hardware knowledge.
  • Scale COM port incorrectly assigned in Reckon Point of Sale: Carefully read and follow the user manual section which deals with connecting scales
  • Scale incorrectly configured to communicate with the PC: Some scales are pre configured by the manufacturer to communicate with POS printers rather than personal computers. Carefully read and follow the manual/user guide which came with your scale, the following settings are required by Reckon Point of Sale to effectively communicate with the scale.
  • • Output Data = ‘Command Mode’
    • Baud Rate    = ‘2400 bps’
    • Parity Bit       = ‘7 bits (Even)’
