The application’s certificate is invalid when posting or transferring from Point of Sale

Legacy KB ID: 5045

Question

Why can’t I post my data from Point of Sale to Accounts Business?  I keep getting the error:

'Error connecting to Accounts: This application’s certificate is invalid.  An application must have a valid certificate to access QuickBooks company data files.'

Answer

Check that the machine can access the internet. If it can’t, set up or fix the internet access, as internet access is required for the Point of Sale certificate to be validated successfully. If the machine can access the internet and you get this error, uninstall and re-install Point of Sale.

The Issue

You will experience this issue after you have changed the price of an item in Point of Sale and posting the changes to Accounts Business and when the security certificate that authorises Point of Sale to change price data in Accounts Business is corrupt or if the machine cannot access the internet.

You may get other error messages:

"Reckon Accounts- Application with Invalid Certificate"

"Application Calls Itself Point Of Sale"

"Certificate information: the certificate is invalid"

Fixing the internet access (and reinstalling Point of Sale if required) will allow the posting to continue.

Detailed Instructions

Ensure you can access the internet by opening an internet browser and navigating to any web site. Click the refresh button to make sure it can get a current version of the web page. If there is no internet access, ask your network administrator to set it up for you. If the machine can access the internet and you still get this error when transferring or posting in Point of Sale, uninstall and re-install Point of Sale:

1.Backup your Point of Sale database file to a location other than the installation folder:

a.In POS Administrator click on the Backup icon and navigate to a location other than the Point of Sale installation folder and save the backup.

2.Move unprocessed End of Day files to the backup directory used above

EOD files by default are in the C:\Reckon\Point of Sale xxxxxxx XXXX Administrator directory and have the format:

QBPst – computername – yymmdd – hhmmss – 001.pos

3.Delete the Point of Sale installation directories:

C:\Reckon\Point of Sale xxxxxxx XXXX Administrator

C:\Reckon\Point of Sale xxxxxxx XXXX Terminal (if POS Terminal is installed)

Where xxxxxx is the POS flavour (Lite, Pro)

And XXXX is the year version

4.Reinstall Point of Sale.

5.Restore your backup file by opening Point of Sale Administrator and following the prompts to restore the backup

6.Open Point of Sale Terminal. If the First Use Wizard appears, use the same name as before for the terminal (the Terminal name field should default to the correct name)

7.Move EOD files into the folder containing the Point of Sale database (by default C:\Reckon\Point of Sale xxxxxxx XXXX Administrator)
