An error occurred while posting the standard accounts and items to the Accounts data file from POS

Legacy KB ID: 5508

Question

Why does my transfer, post or building a new database fail with the error:

An error occurred while posting the standard accounts and items to the Accounts data file.

Error code: -14 – Accounts OLE link error.  Check that the compatibility options for this application are not set to run in a different operating system mode or as an Administrator.

Please fix the problem and try again.

Answer

Do not run either Reckon Accounts Business or Point of Sale in Run As Admin and Compatibility Mode.

The Issue

The error occurs when the two programmes are running in different modes.  For instance Reckon Accounts Business may be set to Run As Administrator and perhaps also in Compatibility Mode for an early operating system while Point of Sale is running in normal mode.

While the modes are different Point of Sale cannot communicate to Reckon Accounts Hosted and transfers, postings and the creation of a new database file fail.

Workaround

Run Reckon Accounts business and Point of Sale in normal mode

To turn off other modes:

1.    Right click the launch icon > Properties > Compatibility

2.    Untick the box Run this program as an administrator

3.    Untick the box in Compatibility Mode – Run this program in compatibility mode for

4.    Click OK.

You should now be able to carry out transfers and postings and create new database files.

Additional Information

These settings may have been done on the executable file itself:

RAB:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Reckon Accounts 20xx\QBW32.EXE; and

          ……\QBW32youredition.exe

POS:  C:\Reckon\Point of Sale Professional 2016 Administrator\Administrator.exe
