Error Code -1 Unable to Read system registry when transferring from Accounts Business to Pos Admin
Legacy KB ID: 3243
Question
Why when posting to or transferring from POS I get the following error: Error code -1: Unable to read system Registry.
Answer
Update the Configuration Settings file (QBINT32.INI) for the new version or industry edition.
The Issue
The error occurs anytime a user uninstalls Accounts Business and reinstalls a different level e.g. Premier, Pro etc or different editions e.g. Retail, Manufacturing and Wholesale etc, of the same year version.
Changes to the Configuration Settings file have not been made so POS cannot correctly identify the version of Accounts Business it is dealing with.
Workaround
Follow steps until a resolution is achieved
1. Reboot the PC and try again
2. Is the Accounts Business version POS is connecting to the last version installed? If not, uninstall and re-install.
3. Update the Configuration Settings file
i. Identify your edition or industry in the Registry:
a. Start -> Run
b. Type in "regedit" and click Ok (Registry Editor will start up)
c. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Intuit\ QuickBooksRegistration\23.0. Version numbers are
i. 23.0 = 2014
ii. 22.0 = 2013
iii. 17.0 = 2008/09
d. Take note of the sub-folder name – this is the edition and industry name:
(Premier / Enterprise)
i. superpro / bel
ii. retail / belretail
iii. contractor / belcontractor
iv. wholesale / belwholesale
v. nonprofit / belnonprofit
vi. professional / belprofessional
vii. accountant / belaccount
e. Close Registry Editor.
ii. Manually edit the configuration settings file (QBINT32.INI) for POS:
a. Go to Start -> My Computer -> Local Disk C -> Reckon -> Retail Point of Sale Professional 2022 Administrator
(default location will be C:\Reckon\Retail Point of Sale Professional Administrator)
b. Double click on the file with the name "QBINT32.INI" to open it in Notepad. You will see:
[QuickBooks]
Version=17.0\lite (the name of an edition/industry)
c. Rename “lite” with the name of the sub-folder you have noted from the Registry Editor. (eg, superpro, pro, accountant, bel)
d. Save & close
e. Startup Administrator and try to transfer.
You should not get that error message again.
