Answer

These issues may occur on the following environments:Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10.Microsoft Outlook 2013, Microsoft Outlook 2016, Microsoft Outlook 365.Please note: this issue is Microsoft-based. We at Reckon are neither responsible for this error nor can we provide phone-based support for correcting issues with Outlook.

There are multiple things you can do to correct the issue; one or multiple of these may resolve the issue:

Set your Default Mailing client to Outlook;Open your Outlook before Reckon Accounts;Modify the Microsoft Outlook Trust Centre;Give Reckon Accounts Business Full Control Permissions;Run Reckon Accounts as Administrator;Check if your Email Preview is turned on (Edit > Preferences > Online > Company Preferences > "Display each email before sending"), and turn it off;Turn User Access Control On/Off;Modify the QBW.ini file.

How to set Outlook as your Default Email Client:

  1. Open your Windows Start menu (the Windows icon in the bottom-left).
  2. Search for "Default" and open "Default Apps".
  3. Under "Email", select "Outlook".

How to modify the Outlook Trust Centre:Warning: Turning off this security feature may make your PC vulnerable to sending emails from unauthorized programs. Users should check with their IT personnel and their company policy on such actions before making this adjustment.

  1. In Microsoft Outlook: Go to File > Options > Trust Centre > Trust Centre Settings... > Programmatic Access.
  2. Set the option to "Never warn me about suspicious activity (not recommended).

If this option is greyed out, you might need to modify your antivirus or firewall settings. For more details, please refer to the KB article lower on the page.

How to give Reckon Accounts Business Range Full Control Permissions:

  1. Close Reckon Accounts Business Range.
  2. Right-Click the launch/shortcut icon on your desktop.
  3. Select "Properties".
  4. Go to Security > Edit.
  5. In the Permissions Box for <USERS>, tick the Allow box for Full Control.
  6. Click "OK" to save and close.

If this does not work, have your IT personnel/local IT professional attempt the following:

  1. Go to the Windows Start menu.
  2. Search for "Outlook".
  3. Right-Click and select "Open File Location".
  4. Right-Click on the Outlook shortcut and select "Open File Location". Do note this is not a repeat of the instructions; the Outlook in this folder is a Shortcut.
  5. Right-Click on "OUTLOOK.EXE" and select "Properties".
  6. Go to Security > Edit.
  7. On <ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES>, <ALL RESTRICTED APPLICATION PACKAGES> and <USERS>, tick the Allow box for Full Control. It is strongly advised that an antivirus is put in place before these options are modified in any form.
  8. Press "OK" to save and close.

How to turn User Account Control on or off:Important: If you are unsure of the effects/security of disabling User Access Control, please consult your IT Personnel/local IT professional.

  1. From the Windows Start menu, search for "Control Panel".
  2. Select "User Accounts".
  3. Select "User Accounts" again.

    SIMPLEMAPI=1
  6. Save and close the file.

Further reading for modifying Firewall and Antivirus permissions:https://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=220While this is a document intended for use in a Multi-User Environment, there are semi-rare cases where MAPI errors are caused by antivirus/firewall programs that prevent Reckon Accounts Business Range from accessing Outlook. In these situations, modifying your firewall and exceptions list may be in order. For more information or for assistance, please contact your IT personnel/local IT professionals before attempting these modifications.

Workarounds:There are incredibly rare cases in which all of the above instructions may not correct the issue for one reason or another. In these cases, we recommend (as a workaround) to not use the Desktop version of Outlook to send emails from Reckon Accounts Business Range, and instead use "webmail" .

To change your Email provider:

  1. In Reckon Accounts, go to Edit > Preferences > Send Forms > My Preferences.
  2. Change your Email provider to any service that is not "Outlook", as that is the application.
  3. Once changed, enter in your email address to the Email ID field.
  4. Enter in your email address' password when emailing to send emails.
