Importing the IIF file in Reckon Accounts Business, changes the Inch “ symbol to Feet ‘ symbol.

Legacy KB ID: 5589

Question

Importing the IIF file in Reckon Accounts Business changes the Inch “ symbol to Feet ‘ symbol.

In Other words, ‘Double Quotes’ is changed to ‘Single Quotes’ when importing the IIF file into Reckon Accounts Business. How do I stop that?

Eg: Original item Name In the IIF file before import is : Wheel 18” after importing it in RAB it has changed to Wheel 18’. So the double Quotation in 18” is changed to single Quote.

Answer

This issue occurs when you are importing the IIF file from another Reckon Accounts company file or files created from POS etc; containing the double quotes as part of the item name; into the new or existing Reckon Accounts business file.

This is, in fact, the expected behaviour and Reckon Accounts is making this change from ‘Double Quote’ to ‘Single Quote’ when importing the IIF files, as per design. This is because a lot of file format and apps use the double quote Symbol as a special character, so as to avoid the confusion, Reckon Accounts Business changes the Double Quotes symbol to single Quotes when importing.

EG: See above, where Wheel 18" in Reckon Accounts QBW file has exported as Wheel 18' in IIF file.

Workaround:

1) The workaround is to use the two single quote ‘ instead of one double quote symbol to represent inch in the name. It looks identical to double quotes and is not treated as a special character. You can do so by editing the IIF file in excel. Or Change the name on the original file before exporting them to IIF.

Note: care to be taken while editing the file is that you do not change the file format while saving the changes, as it may not be imported in Reckon Accounts.

2) The second workaround is to rename the double quote as ‘inches’ or ‘In’ if suitable, and import.

You may also want to refer to KB 5055.

Note: You can use the Double Quote symbol within Reckon Accounts Business file, however it is not recommended to do so if you will be exporting or importing information across the different application.
