Invalid serial number when registering QuickBooks via the internet

Question
Why do I receive the error message, Invalid serial number, when re-registering my QuickBooks product online?Answer
Step 1. Check the serial number that you have entered. The correct serial number is the one that is displayed on the screen of your current installation.
If you have re-installed your software on the same machine as a previous installation
OR
Have removed a previous installation on an old computer and installed your software onto a new computer
Your current installation will generate a new serial number that is different to the previous installation.
This serial number is accessible by;
Open your Company data file or the QuickBooks Sample Company file
· Clicking on the File menu, choose Register QuickBooks.
· Click the Phone option on the Product Registration screen.
· Take note of the serial number that is displayed in the Register QuickBooks screen (there will be an empty text box for you to enter the Registration number - we will do this later), click Cancel.
· Close the Product Registration screen.
Step 2. You may now return to Re-register your product online with the correct serial number.
Step 3. Take note of the Registration Number generated
Step 4. Repeat Step 1 to enter the Registration number in the Register QuickBooks screen.
