Reckon Accounts backup will not restore

Question

What should I do if my Reckon Accounts backup will not restore?

Answer

There are several steps you can take to restore your Reckon Accounts backup if the initial attempt is unsuccessful. Try the restoration process again. It's possible that the Cancel button was accidentally clicked, causing Reckon Accounts to exit the restoration function. If the file still fails to restore, consider the following options:

1. **Backup Verification**: If you're restoring a backup to a new computer and the old computer is accessible, create a new backup of your company file onto your local drive from the old computer. Then, restore this backup on the new computer. Note: Ensure your local drive is free from damage. Using damaged storage may compromise the integrity of your backup file.

2. **Disk Integrity Check**: If the backup disks are damaged or have compatibility issues with your computer's disk drive, attempt to copy the data from the external device to your hard disk. If the copy process fails, it's likely that the device is damaged. Fully format a external device on the computer where you're restoring the data, then copy the information from the hard disk to the newly formatted external device before retrying the restoration process.

3. **Alternative Media**: If your backup is stored on a different media type such as a USB device or one drive, copy the backup file from that media to your local drive. Then, initiate the restoration process by browsing to the file location on your local drive using the following steps:

- From the Reckon Accounts File menu, select Open or Restore Company file.

- Select the restore backup option

- Choose the backup location on your local drive from the drop-down list.

- Select the backup file and proceed with the restoration.

4. **Precautionary Measures**: If you encounter persistent issues with restoring the backup file, refrain from running disk repair utilities. These utilities may further compromise the backup file's integrity.

5. **Data Recovery Services**: If all attempts to restore the backup fail or if the backup media is severely damaged, consider reaching out to Reckon Data Recovery for professional assistance. They may be able to recover the data depending on the extent of the damage. Please note that there may be a fee associated with data recovery services.
