Error 3260 Could not update: currently locked by user Admin

Legacy KB ID: 3916

Question

Why do I get the error: “Error 3260: Could not update: currently locked by user 'admin'” when entering a transaction when I do not have a user called admin?

Answer

The user ‘admin’ is created by POS for use by the POS Administrator.  It is activated when changes are made or functions utilized in the POS Administrator.

When the POS Administrator is carrying out a function, the terminal cannot access the database.  Usually the inability to access will last a few seconds.  If the POS Administrator function is a lengthy one, or the POS Administrator finishes the function in an abnormal manner, the system will believe the admin user is still active.  The error will then be generated.

Entering a transaction when POS Administrator is doing a transfer is a common source for this error.

Network POS are also vulnerable to this error when:

·         Switching keyboard layers,

·         Simultaneous accessing of the same inventory item.

Our Development Team is investigating the issue.

Workarounds

1.    Transfer data at times Terminals are not accessing the database.

2.    If the problem occurs at other times, reboot the Terminals and Administrator
