Internet Explorer v11 crashes when Reckon Accounts Personal range is launched in Windows8.1
Legacy KB ID: 5053
Question
Why does Internet Explorer v11 crash whenever I launch Reckon Accounts Personal Range? If I open Internet Explorer v11 while Reckon Accounts Personal is open, it is unusable.
I get the error:
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE.
This application requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
In the Event Viewer I see the reference:
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\QWUTIL.dll
Answer
Adjust Compatibility View Settings, revert to an older Internet Explorer version, or turn off Enhanced Protected Mode setting.
The Issue
The latest version of Internet Explorer (version 11, issued with Windows 8.1) contains new security features that are incompatible with Reckon Accounts Personal Range.
Reckon Accounts Personal Range has not been tested with Windows 8.1 so we are unable to confirm whether the incompatibility lies with Windows 8.1 or Internet Explorer 11.
Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 does not produce this problem.
Some users have found that turning off the new features in Internet Explorer 11 will allow it to operate with Reckon Accounts Personal Range.
Warning
Turning off Enhanced Protected Mode will remove an added level of security to Internet Explorer that was introduced with Internet Explorer v10. If you are unsure whether you should proceed with this step please consult your IT Professional.
