QODBC asking for an Activation Key a month after installing

Legacy KB ID: 4944

Question

I installed the QODBC driver from the Reckon Accounts Business 2013 installation DVD a month ago.  Now it is asking for an Activation Key.  What key do I use?

Answer

The QOCBC driver issued with Accounts Business 2013 free of charge has a licensing issue.

Reckon and Flexquarters (makers of QODBC) apologize for the inconvenience.

You have been working with a trial version of the product and the trial period has now expired.  You cannot proceed without an Activation Key which is only available when you purchase the product directly from QODBC.

Solution

1.    Close QODBC and Accounts Business;

2.    Uninstall the QODBC driver:

a.    Start > All Programs >QODBC driver for use with QuickBooks

b.    Select Uninstall QODBC

3.    Download the updated driver from:  https://www.qodbc.com/download/qodbc.exe

Save the download file to a convenient place on your PC, like the Downloads Folder.

4.    Install the new driver.

a.    In the Downloads Folder double click on the downloaded QODBC.exe file

b.    Follow the installation Wizard;

c.    Ignore the screen asking for an Activation Key by clicking Next.

  1. One month after installing, ignore the prompt to renew your license.

Additional Information

When you start using QODBC you will be given a one-month trial of the full license which allows a two-way flow of data – from the company file to QODBC and from QODBC to the company file.  At the end of the month you will receive a message that your license has expired.  This message refers to the trial of the full version.  Ignore the message and the driver will revert to the limited free license that extracts data from your company file only.
