Showing Split detail in an Export Data file from Accounts Personal

Legacy KB ID: 5122

Question

I have exported the data from a Banking Transactions Report to a .TXT file.  The transactions that contain split category information are showing only as a ‘Split’ and not the categories items were assigned to.  How can I view the categories?

Answer

Re-sort the Banking Transactions Report by choosing to ‘Subtotal by’ and selecting ‘Category’, and then change back to ‘Don’t subtotal’ before creating the export file.

The Issue

When you export a report through the Export Data button, you will export the view you have on your screen.

By default, a Banking Transactions Report will show one line per transaction, so transactions with splits will show the Category as ‘Split’.

You can show split detail on the report by first using the option to ‘Subtotal by’ an item that shows individual line entries – like ‘Category’.  When you change ‘subtotal by’ back to ‘Don’t subtotal’, the Report will retain the individual item entries.  Each split transaction will now show in a number of lines.
