Remittance Advices from a Credit Card payment

Legacy KB ID: 3722

Question

I have paid a bill with my credit card.  How can I produce a Remittance Advice for my supplier?

Answer

QuickBooks will only produce a Remittance Advice for a bill paid from a Bank Account.

Workaround

If you will be regularly paying bills by credit card and would like to issue Remittance Advices, then you can setup your credit card account as a Bank Account.  The bank account will be in credit (negative balance) unless you make an overpayment.

To organise a pro-forma Remittance Advice from a Credit Card Account, do the following:

  1. Reports > Custom Transaction Detail Report

2.    Click on the Modify button and:

a.    add the column Paid and Amount;

    1. remove unwanted columns like Debit, Credit, Balance, Clr, Class, Num, Split;

3.    Modify > Filter:

a.    Transaction Type:  Bills

b.    Account Type:  Expenses; Cost of Sales; etc;

    1. Name:  your Supplier;
  1. Modify > Header/Footer > and change Report Title to Remittance Advice for Supplier;
  2. OK to close;
  3. Set the correct date range;
  4. Print the Report;
  5. Memorise the report for future use;
  6. If you want more formatting to your Remittance Advice, export this report to Excel and use Excel features to format the document.
