All Retrieve – Add Item – Hold sequences do not always print to the Kitchen Printer

Legacy KB ID: 4037

Question

Why when I retrieve an order on hold and add items to it, the new items do not always print to the Kitchen Printer.

Answer

When taking transactions off hold and adding items, POS will check various parts of the Database to ensure all changes are made correctly.  This results in transactions taking a little longer to process than normal transactions.

If transactions are taken off hold, items added and put back on hold in quick succession, then new items may be added while the previous item has not completed printing.  In a busy business environment it is possible to make a number of changes before the Kitchen Printer is ready to print again.

Where items cannot print because a previous item is still printing, they will be printed on the next item print, so that print will have a number of items on it.

Printing from a terminal on the same PC that the Kitchen Printer is attached to will be faster than from other terminals.

Our Product Development Team is investigating the issue.

Workaround

1.    Avoid adding items to retrieved transactions quickly;

2.    Ensure the Kitchen Printer is attached to the PC with the higher volume of transactions.
