Windows Installer message box appears and prevents installation of Reckon Accounts business 2013

Question

Why does a Windows Installer message box appear and stops me installing Reckon Accounts Business?

 

Answer

Your user does not have sufficient permissions to run the windows Installer and may be blocked by other applications on your PC. 

 

Workaround

Log onto the PC as the built-in administrator and install in Selective Startup

To enable the built-In Administrator do the following:

 

Windows 8 Professional:

·         At the Metro Start Screen click on Windows Key + X;

·         Select Computer Management;

·         Click on Local Users and Groups, then  Users, and then Administrator;

·         Untick Account is disabled on the General tab.

 

Windows 8 (basic):

  • At the Metro Start Screen click on Windows Key + X;
  • Select Command Prompt (Admin)
  • Type in the following command:  net user administrator /active:yes

 

Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate & Vista Business/Ultimate & Windows XP Pro:

·         Right click on Computer, then Manage, then Local Users and Groups, then  Users, and then Administrator;

·         Untick Account is disabled on the General tab.

 

Windows7 Home Premium & Vista Home Basic/Home Premium:

Local Users and Groups is not available in Computer Management with these operating systems but you can enable the Built-in Administrator account using the command prompt, as follows:

a.   Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories;

b.   right click Command Prompt and left click Run as administrator;

c.   to turn on the built-in administrator, type: 

[When you have completed all actions, turn off the built-in administrator by typing:  ]

 

 

For Microsoft Windows 7, Vista or XP:

1.      Click the Microsoft Windows Start button and select Run.

Note: If the Run window doesn't display, press and hold the Windows icon button on the right side of the keyboard's space bar, and press the R key. This will display the Run window.

2.      In the Open field, type MSCONFIG, and then click OK. The System Configuration Utility window opens.

3.      Click the General tab, and then select Selective Startup.

4.      Select the Load System Services checkbox and clear the Load Startup Items checkbox.

5.      Click the Services tab, locate Windows Installer and make sure it is ticked.

6.      Click Hide all Microsoft Services checkbox at the bottom of the window.

7.      Click the Disable all button to clear all selected services.

8.      Click OK. The System Configuration message window appears.

9.      Click the Restart button.

You can now install or activate your product. 

 

After installing and activating, revert your PC to Normal mode

1.    Click the Windows Start button and select Run.

2.    In the Open field, type MSCONFIG, and then click OK.

3.    Click the General tab and select the Normal Startup option.

4.    Click OK. The System Configuration message window appears.

5.    Click Restart.
