Removing uninstalled programmes with the Microsoft Tool

Question

How do I remove the remnants of an un-installed Reckon Accounts installation so that I can re-install it?  The old Windows Installer Cleanup Utility no longer works? 

Answer

Follow the Microsoft guide here to Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed.  You will be required to download a utility program.


This tool is for use on Windows 7 and later operating systems.

 


Windows XP users

This operating system is no longer supported by Microsoft or Reckon.  Users should speak with their IT professional and follow their advice.


We provide the following utility to assist in correcting such faults with older versions of QuickBooks (now Reckon Accounts Business) still running on Windows XP.  Microsoft has acknowledged this utility, the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, may have adverse effects on your PC and other programs may have to be re-installed.  Do not use it for any other application. 


Click here to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and save it to your desktop. 


To Install:

1.    Double click the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility icon on your desktop and then double-click on the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility folder;

2.    Double click on msicuu.exe and then click on Extract All;

3.    In the next window:  Select Destination and Extract Files, click on the Browse button and navigate to C:\Program Files and then click on the button Make New Folder;

4.    A New Folder folder will be created and highlighted; type in a new name: Windows Installer Cleanup, and click on OK;

5.    Back at the Select Destination and Extract Files window click on Extract;

6.    The files will be extracted and you will be taken to a window for C:\Program Files\Windows Installer Cleanup;  click on the Windows Installer Cleanup folder;

7.    (Right-click on msicuu.exe and select Send to (Desktop) to create a desktop icon;)

8.    Double click on msicuu.exe (or on the desktop icon) to launch the utility. 


To use:

·         Double click on msicuu.exe (or on the desktop icon) to launch the utility;

·         Select the application to uninstall;

·         Click on Remove.

·         Click on Exit to leave the program.
