Question

How do I locate important files in Reckon Accounts Desktop?

Answer

Reckon Accounts Desktop has multiple locations where files are kept/stored. To find them, please refer below.

Configuring my computer to Show hidden files and folders and file extensions

Some of the folders in which Reckon Accounts Desktop files are stored are by default now hidden files. 

To show hidden files you will need to do the following:

Windows 10, 8 & 7

  1. Open your File Explorer.
  2. Click View tab.
  3. Select Show hidden files and folders.

Company File

Reckon Accounts typically keeps your company file in the following location:

C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\Quickbooks\Company Files\

If you do not see you company file in this location, but can open it in Reckon Accounts Desktop, you can find its location by doing the following:

  1. Open your Company File in Reckon Accounts Desktop.
  2. Press F2 after the file opens. This will open the Product Information window.
  3. Check "Location". It will tell you the folder location of your Reckon Accounts Company File.

Sample Company File

Windows 11/10: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\ QuickBooks\ Sample Company Files\ QuickBooks 20xx-xx

QuickBooks Letter Templates

Windows 11/10: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\ QuickBooks\ Company Files\ QuickBooks Letter Templates\

QBWin.log File

Windows 11/10: C:\Users\(Your Username)\AppData\Local\Intuit\QuickBooks\Log\

Alternatively:

  1. Open your Company FIle in Reckon Accounts Desktop.
  2. Press F2 after the file opens. This will open the Product Information window.
  3. Press F3 after this. This will open the Tech Help window.
  4. Go to the Open File tab.
  5. Click QBWin.log.
  6. Select Open.

ABA File

Windows 11/10: C:\ProgramData\Reckon\Reckon Accounts 20xx\<Edition> 20xx\Export Files\ABA Files\

Where <Edition> is Enterprise, Premier, Pro, Plus, or Accounting.

STP Files

Windows 11/10: C:\ProgramData\Reckon\Reckon Accounts 20xx\<Edition> 20xx\Export Files\STP Files\

Where <edition> is Enterprise, Premier, Pro, Plus, or Accounting.
