Units of Measure is greyed out and I cannot turn it off

Question

How can I turn off the Units of Measure?  It is greyed out in the Purchases and Suppliers Preference.

Answer

You cannot turn off (inactivate) the 'Units of Measure are active' option in the 'Purchases and Suppliers' under Preferences if your data file has been created in a flavour edition(aka and industry specific installation).  This is due to the fact that the Easy Step Interview is only available in the 'vanilla flavour' or standard install.  

To create a data file with Units of Measure turned off in a flavour edition;

1  Create new company file in vanilla flavour.  When you reach the Enabling Units of Measure   section of the Easy Step Interview, select NO to Do you want to enable Units of Measure? 

Note: Once the Units of Measure option is turned on it cannot be turned off !

2 Open the file you created in the flavour edition of Reckon Accounts.  The Units of Measure option will now be off.
