GovConnect crashes with an unexpected error

Legacy KB ID: 3977

Question

Why does GovConnect crash with an unexpected error when I click on Lodge in the BAS?

Answer

When you install GovConnect it will also install Microsoft.Net Framework 3.5 SP1 (.Net 3.5.1) if it isn’t already installed on your PC.  If later .Net 3.5.1 is uninstalled, GovConnect will crash with an unexpected error when you try to open it or after you click Enter on the first window.

This issue will also occur if you have just installed GovConnect, and at the end of the installation answered No to the instruction to restart your PC now.

Solution

If you did not reboot your PC after installing GovConnect, do so now.

Otherwise, reinstall .Net 3.5SP1.

To reinstall .Net 3.5.1 on Windows 7:

1.    Windows Start button > Control Panel > Programs and Features

2.    In the left-hand pane select Turn Windows Features on or off

3.    Click on the plus symbol (+) next to Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5.1

4.    Tick the two boxes:

a.    Windows communication Foundation HTTP Activation

b.    Windows communication Foundation Non-HTTP Activation

5.    Click OK to Save.

To reinstall .Net 3.5.1 on Windows XP & Vista:

1.    Insert the GovConnect CD and select exit

2.    Windows Start button > My Computer > select the CD drive > DotNET35

3.    Double click on dotnetfx35.exe and follow the prompts.

To reinstall .Net 3.5.1 on Windows 10 & 11:

1.    Windows Start button > Control Panel > Programs and Features

2. Enable .NET Framework by ticking the box

Once it is enabled, it will ask you for the permissions - Allow to make changes.

Restart the device and it should be enabled and GovConnect should now work properly.
