Configuring my firewall/antivirus to work with Accounts Business in a multi-user environment

Legacy KB ID: 220

Question

How do I configure my firewall/antivirus to work with Reckon Accounts Business (formerly QuickBooks) in a multi-user environment?

Answer

Firewall and antivirus software compatibility

If you use firewall or antivirus software, it may be necessary to adjust settings in these applications to ensure the best possible performance with Accounts Business. Refer to your firewall or antivirus product documentation for further information.

Using firewall software on a network

If firewall software is running while you install Accounts Business, you may be asked if you want to allow Accounts Business components to have access to the network. In multi-user environments, Accounts Business uses the Internet protocol TCP/IP for data communication. If your company's network is protected by a firewall, you may need to reconfigure your firewall software to allow Accounts Business to communicate using TCP/IP.

Most firewall applications allow you to configure them to allow specific programs access.  Please make note of the following files and ports that must be granted access for both Incoming and Outgoing traffic.

The relevant port number is different for each edition of Accounts Business:

  1. Accounts Business v34 use Port 10188
  2. Accounts Business 2024 use Port 10187
  3. Accounts Business 2023 use Port 10186
  4. Accounts Business 2022 use Port 10185
  5. Accounts Business 2021 use Port 10184
  6. Accounts Business 2020 use Port 10183
  7. Accounts Business 2019 use Port 10182
  8. Accounts Business 2018 use Port 10181
  9. Accounts Business 2017 use Port 10180
  10. Accounts Business 2016 use Port 10179

Files that must be made exceptions are:

  1. In C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\Reckon Accounts v34\:
    1. FileManagement.exe
    2. QBDBMgr.exe
    3. QBDBMgrN.exe
    4. QBGDSPlugin.exe
    5. QBW32.exe
  2. In C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\:
    1. QBCFMonitorService.exe
  3. In C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate\:
    1. QBUpdate.exe

Different firewall software applications use different terminology when prompting you. Be sure to choose an option that does not block connections to Accounts Business components. Also, some firewall and antivirus software can affect Accounts Business performance. If you experience performance issues you think are related to your firewall software, refer to the firewall documentation or contact your firewall supplier for assistance.
