Error (-6176,0) Reckon Accounts cannot get the network address of the server

Question

Why do I get the error:  Reckon Accounts was unable to communicate with the computer where the company file is located (-6176,0) when trying to open my company file?

Answer

There are a number of issues that can cause this error:

1.    Virus or other problems in Windows;

2.    The Reckon Accounts installation has become corrupt

 

Solutions

Solution 1: Check for system issues

·         Update your antivirus software;

·         Run a full scan of your computer. 

If you are unable to update or run your antivirus software you may have a virus. Contact your IT professional for assistance. 

·         If no viruses are detected, copy your company file to another computer and try to open it.  If it opens, then go to Solution 2. 

·         If the company file does not open on a different computer or the error appears with only one company file, the problem is with your file.  Go to Solution 3.

 

Solution 2: Repair the Reckon Accounts installation

1.    Close Reckon Accounts.

2.    Repair your installation of Reckon Accounts:

a.    Start > Control Panel > Programs & Features;

b.    Scroll down to Reckon Accounts 20xx, right-click and remove;

c.    Select Repair and click OK

If you receive errors repairing your Reckon Accounts installation or the (-6176,0) error persists, reinstall Reckon Accounts.

 

Solution 3 – Data Recovery

Your data file is damaged and cannot be opened in its present state.  Click this link;  https://www.reckon.com/au/data-services-request/ to request a service from Data Recovery.
