Error 1327 The drive is invalid when installing QuickBooks

Question

Why can’t I install Reckon Accounts Business (formerly QuickBooks)?  I get the error:  Error1327. “The drive [X:] is invalid”.

Answer

You may experience this error when the drive listed in the error message is unavailable during the installation. This could happen if your computer becomes:

·        Disconnected from a network drive.

·        Because of the removal of a portable storage device, such as a USB stick.

·        You do not have sufficient permissions to access the drive

 

Workarounds

If you have removed a portable storage device from your system, reconnected it, and then try to install again.

 

If the problem persists, login as the built-in Administrator.

To turn the built-in Administrator on and off:

If the problem persists then follow the steps for your operating system below until the problem is resolved.

 

Windows 8, 7 & Vista

Solution 1: Install while you are logged-off your network​.

  1. Click the Windows Start button > Control Panel > Open the Network and Sharing Centre > Change adapter settings.

2.    Right-click each adapter and select Disable.;

Note: You might receive messages that your connection has been lost. Do not reconnect to your network.

  1. Leave this window open and install Accounts Business.
  2. When the installation completes, return to the Network Connections window and enable all your network connections – right-click each adapter and select Enable.

If successful, keep this new account profile on your computer.

 

Solution 2: Create a new Windows user and use it to install​.

  1. Click the Start button > Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage another account.
  2. Click Create a new account.
  3. Create a name and select Administrator.
  4. Click Create account.
  5. Restart the computer and log in with the new administrator account.
  6. Install Accounts Business.

Note: Your icons might not appear on your desktop in account profiles other than the one used to install.

 

Solution 3: Read a Microsoft article on how to correct possible registry damage.

 

This error can occur when the Windows registry contains a key with an incorrect value in the Data field.

To resolve the error, follow the steps in Microsoft Knowledge Article 886549 for Windows 7 and 327763 for Windows Vista, to enter the correct value for the registry key.

Care:  Changes to the Registry affect the behavior of your computer.  Incorrect changes may prevent your computer from running properly.  If you are not confident in making changes to your Registry please refer to your IT professional.

 

Windows XP

Solution 1: Install while you are logged-off your network

  1. Click the Windows Start button > control Panel > Network Connections

2.    In the LAN or High-Speed Internet section, determine which connections are listed as Enabled in the Status column.

Note: If the Status column is not displayed, right-click the grey bar that shows the column names and then select Status.

3.    For each entry that is listed as Enabled, right-click the name of the connection and select Disable.

Note: You might receive messages that your connection has been lost. Do not reconnect to your network.

  1. When all connections under LAN and High-Speed Internet are listed as Disabled, leave this window open and install Accounts Business.
  2. When the installation completes, return to the Network Connections window and enable all your network connections – right-click each adapter and select Enable.

 

Solution 2: Create a new Windows user and use it to install

  1. Click the Start button > Control Panel > User Accounts.
  2. Click Create a new account and then follow the on-screen instructions to create a user account with administrative permissions.
  3. Restart the computer and log in with the new administrator account.
  4. Install Accounts Business.
