Cannot enter a Term Deposit maturity date after upgrading to Quicken 2011 and later

Legacy KB ID: 4421

Question

Why am I not prompted to add a maturity date when I create a new Term Deposit in Quicken 2011 or later?

Answer

You will experience this problem with files upgraded from an older version of Quicken to Quicken 2011 and later that already contain a Term Deposit security type.

You have the ability in Quicken to create a security type.  If you created a security type called Term Deposit in Quicken 2010 and earlier, then when you upgrade the file to a version that has the new Term Deposit Security module, it will not launch as the Term Deposit name already exists.  You do not access to the additional feature of a maturity date and Alerts.

Detailed Instructions

In the Quicken 2011 or 2012 datafile:

1.    Edit the existing Term Deposit:

a.    Investing > Security List;

b.    Highlight your Term Deposit, right click and select Edit;

c.    Change the Type to Other and click OK.

2.    Delete the existing Term Deposit Security Type:

a.    Investing > Security Type List;

b.    Highlight Term Deposit, right click and select Delete;

c.    Click OK and close the window.

3.    Shut down Quicken

4.    Launch Quicken

5.    Go to Investing > Security Type List and see that Term Deposit is listed.  This entry has been generated by Quicken 2011 and later and contains all the features for the Term Deposit module.

6.    Take note of the details of the original entry and delete it:

a.    Go to your original Term Deposit account and click on Transactions button;

b.    Highlight the transaction entered in the older version of Quicken and click on the Delete button and Yes to confirm.

7.    Recreate your Term Deposit.  In the last screen you will be prompted for the maturity date.

Additional Information

A similar problem may be encountered if you entered a Term Deposit with the name Term Deposit as another security item like Stock or Managed Fund.  In this case, rename the account, close Quicken and relaunch it and follow Step 5 and onwards.
