The account does not exist when selecting an account for a Bill or Write Cheque

Legacy KB ID: 4876

Question

Why do Reckon Accounts say my account does not exist when entering a bill for it?  It is in the account dropdown menu on the bill and I can view the account in the Chart Of Accounts.

Answer

This issue is a result of a minor corruption of the account.  It is more likely to occur with sub-accounts and where account numbers are used.

Workaround

1.    Edit > Preferences > Accounting > Company Preferences

2.    Untick the box Use Account Numbers

3.    Click OK

4.    Edit > Preferences > Accounting > Company Preferences

5.    Tick the box Use Account Numbers

6.    Click OK

If Account Numbers were not used, tick for Account Numbers and then untick it.

If the problem persists, create a new account and merge the two:

1.    In Chart of Accounts, rename the problem account or sub-account.

2.    Create a new account or sub-account with the original name.

3.    Rename the renamed account or sub-account to the original name.

A merge warning will appear:  "This item already exists. Would you like to merge the two together" – select Yes.
