Windows SmartScreen prevented an unrecognised app from starting up.

Legacy KB ID: 5436

Question

Why can’t I download the latest release version of Reckon Accounts Business?  I keep getting the error:

Windows SmartScreen prevented an unrecognised app from starting up.  Running this app might put your PC at risk.

Answer

Click on More Info and then select Run Anyway.

The Issue

When you try to install a software programme or an app that is not included in the Windows Store, or does not have an Authenticode Certificate registered in the Windows Root Certificate Program, the inbuilt Windows SmartScreen alerts you that this download may not be safe.

You can be confident that all Reckon downloads are safe and free of viruses and it is safe to continue with the installation.

To proceed with the installation do the following:

  1. Click on the More info hyperlink;

  2. On the next screen, click on Run anyway;

  3. Proceed with the installation of the latest Reckon Accounts Business release.

Additional Information

You may if you wish disable the Windows SmartScreen feature.  However, it is not recommended as the feature provides a valuable defence against genuine viruses and other malware.
