Cannot upgrade file - Award name too long

Legacy KB ID: 3586

Question

Why does the Payroll Premier Upgrade Wizard stop at the “... employees which are currently linked to awards ...” section and indicate that an Award Name is too long?

Answer

This problem will occur if you have an Award Name that is longer than 20 characters.

Detailed Instructions

In your previous version of Payroll Premier

Change the name of the Award

·         Click on Lists then Awards;

·         Double click on the Award Name that is longer than 20 characters;

·         Change the name to one shorter than 20 characters;

·         Click on the Employee tab;

·         Double click on the first employee to this award (it should still show the old name).  The entry will become ticked and highlighted in green;

·         Click on the >> button to add the name to the box on the right;

·         Double click on all subsequent employees to this award and add to the box on the right;

·         When all employees to the award are selected click on OK.

Prepare the datafile for upgrade

  •  Rebuild you datafile – on the Rebuild screen tick all boxes except the two that relate to Super (2nd and 6th boxes);
  • Create a new backup;

In the current version of Payroll Premier restore your backup and it should upgrade.
