Question

How do I set up Reckon Accounts to use Multi-user mode?

  • When running on a network, Reckon Accounts has the ability to allow up to five users to work in the file at the same time.
  • When users are allowed to work simultaneously in the same company file, the file is in multi-user mode.

Follow these steps to set up a multi-user environment:

  1. 1. Make sure you have your computers properly networked.
    1. If you need assistance setting up your network, refer to your networking software documentation.
    2. For more information about the system and network requirements of Reckon Accounts, see Reckon Accounts System Requirements.
  2. Install a copy of Reckon Accounts for each user on their computer.
    1. To purchase additional copies of Reckon Accounts, visit your local retailer or buy online.
  3. Choose a location for the Reckon Accounts company file. Be sure each user has read/write access and create/delete rights to the directory where the Reckon Accounts company file is stored.
    1. On a peer-to-peer network (network without a dedicated file server where all computers on the network have the option to share their resources), you may want to put the company file on the computer of the person who uses Reckon Accounts the most. This allows that person to have the fastest access to the file.
    2. On a Client-Server network (network in which at least one computer is dedicated to sharing files, or other resources and is not usually used by individuals to do their daily work) you will most likely put the company file on the server.
  4. Choose a Reckon Accounts Administrator and have that person set up Users and Permissions.
  5. Register your copies of Reckon Accounts after you have begun sharing the company file. For more information about registering, see Registering Reckon Accounts.
