Unexpected or fatal error C=1 when bringing up a form

Question

When I try to create an invoice, bill or any other form QuickBooks crashes saying there is an unexpected or fatal error (M=1028, L=1938 C=1,....) why is this?

Answer

This can happen if your display resolution for Windows is set to below 800x600. If you increase your display resolution in the settings area of your display propertys, this should resolve the issue. Quickbooks requires a minimum of 800x600 and 16 bit colour to operate.
