POS Terminal continually asking to register

Legacy KB ID: 5459

Question

Why does my POS Terminal continually ask me to register it when I registered it with the last use?

Answer

Remove the Read-Only tag on the PointOfSale.ini file.

The Issue

When you register your POS Terminal a licence key is written to the INI file and referenced every time the POS Terminal is launched.  If for some reason this file cannot be written to then the Registration is not recorded and you are prompted to register again.

Workaround

  1. In Windows/File Explorer, go to C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Reckon\PointOfSale;
  2. Right Click the file: PointOfSale.ini and select Properties;
  3. Untick the Read Only box.

Register your POS Terminal again, shut it down and relaunch it to confirm the licence key has been retained.

If the problem persists then the file is corrupt.

Uninstall and re-install POS Terminal.
